Who we are
Northwoods Fly Fishing was founded by Daniel Haan who loves to share his passion and knowledge about fly fishing to anybody who will listen.
Daniel started his career in the Western trout waters of Colorado and has been Fly fishing for over 20 years and guiding professionally for over 10 years. While in Colorado, Daniel was able to fish for a multitude of species, although trout was the main sport fish available. Daniel’s True passion comes from fishing for other species with the fly rod in hand including: Musky, Pike, Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, and many more.
Our broad spectrum of trip experiences range from beginner fly fishing lessons, to full service guided trips targeting any species that the Northwoods have to offer. A variety of different fisheries offer the perfect experience for any level of angler. While guiding is a great opportunity, knowledge is our number one product. We understand that fishing is one of the greatest pastimes that one can pursue and so our information is given freely and accurately. We don’t keep secrets here!
In addition to Fly fishing, Northwoods Fly Fishing specializes in Ice fishing experiences. Through the ice, Walleye, Perch, Crappie, and Pike make for an unforgettable experience. FROM THE OWNER
To me, fly fishing is therapy.
It’s the one place I can be absolutely focused on the task at hand. On the water, my worries, stressors, and fears dissipate with the sights and sounds of nature. The anticipation of the day starts hours before setting foot on the boat as I run scenarios and images through my head from the past. The adrenaline kicks in once my line gets wet, knowing the area I’m fishing holds true giants. The kick of the fly after each strip could be just the right trigger to entice one of these trophies in the stained water of the Wisconsin Northwoods. Knowing that at any given time a musky could appear from the depths is what keeps me coming back time and time again. Finally, when it all comes together: the weather, the fly, the structure, the perfect strip and pause of the fly, and the fish commits to my presentation without hesitation; I know I’ve just been apart of something truly magical.

The Team
DANIEL HAAN

KAYLA AUSTIN
is Daniel’s better half. She loves to get out on the boat with their two pups and usually fishes in between lounge sessions. She prefers using her lightweight rod for panfish species!
TABOR
lives for fish kisses! She’s a boat dog through and through, and knows where to lay so the line stacks on top of her perfectly where she naps. You’ll usually find her napping in the sunniest spots of the house.
CHARLIE
AKA Chewy, Charizard, or Monster. Charlie is still new to the family, but loves being out on the water. He lives for running the frozen lakes, and checking tip ups and jigs. You can always find him with a toy!
